Call for Applications
Understanding Multiculturalism
“Exploring the Promotion and Protection of Cultural Diversity”
(Berlin, 29th November – 3rd December 2010)
The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is pleased to announce it is currently
accepting applications to the forthcoming December Session of the ICD
Academy for Cultural Diplomacy, taking place in Berlin this December.
Participants will take part in a 5-day program of lectures, seminars, and
workshops lead by experts from politics, diplomacy, civil society, and
academia. A range of cultural and social activities will complement the
academic components and allow the group to expand their personal networks
and experience Berlin’s rich cultural and historical landscape.
What will the program look at?
The December Session of the ICD Academy will look at the subject of
multiculturalism: what it means, how it is interpreted in different fields,
and how it can be promoted. In addition, the participants will learn about
the history and development of cultural diplomacy and its practical
application across the world today.
Who will speak during the program?
Speakers will be selected from politics, diplomacy, academia, and the
cultural sector, to ensure that a plurality of perspectives is presented.
Confirmed speakers during the forthcoming Weeklong Seminar include Ulrika
Holmgaard (Cultural Attaché at the Swedish Embassy in Berlin), Mark Donfried
(Founder & Director of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy), and Yvonne
Rock (Cultural Producer).
Who can apply?
Applications are accepted from students, young professionals, civil society
representatives and cultural practitioners, and diplomatic and political
representatives with an interest in intercultural relations.
What happens after the Weeklong Session?
At the end of each session each participant will receive a certificate of
participation detailing the activities of the week and the speakers
involved. Participants then become part of the ICD’s global network and will
be given support in conducting their own research and organising their own
initiatives.
